The National Chemical and Refining facility at Depew is one of the Lackawanna Terminal Railway's largest customers. This large, sprawling plant can easily accommodate two crews (occasionally three), around-the-clock. Making the crews' lives difficult is the fact that the Lackawanna Terminal Railway's Buffalo-Croxton main line essentially divides the complex in half. The plant receives raw materials in bulk by tank car and covered hopper. Break bulk shipments of liquids in 55 gallon drums and powdered product in palletized bags and ships complete products by boxcar and tank car. Hazardous liquids are brought into the plant on the two curved sidings that go under the offices as seen in the above map. Below you see the construction of the National Chemical and Refining Corporation's huge warehouse and shipping facility located on the west end of the complex. Just behind the storage tanks is the tank car loading tracks still under construction. In front of the storage tanks is a three track holding yard for inbound cars and car waiting to be re-spotted for outbound shipments.

The National Chemical and Refining Corporation is one of the most important customers on the property served by the Lackawanna Terminal Railway. This well established chemical company ships and receives a massive number of high tariff shipments each day and is involved with projects with other on-line customers such as the Sulfex Chemical Company (refining and modifying a sulphur derivative for use as a flavoring and coloring for the Amalgamated Processed Foods' world famous snack food: Cheezy-Puffs) as well as being the leader in the "Sludge to Fudge" project wherein the good folks at NC&R process biosolids shipped in by rail to eliminate and recover the heavy metals embedded in the therein and in the process render the biosolids fit for human consumption. The National Chemical and Refining Company is also involves in the reprocessing of Plutonium waste and in the development and production of the little known but extremely expensive to ship chemical: Hydro-Chloro-Flouro-Neurotic Acid.
